Archdiocese of Baltimore Celebrates Catholic Schools Week; Archbishop, Chancellor and Superintendent to Visit Catholic Schools of Frederick County

Archbishop William E. Lori, Chancellor of Education, Mr. James Sellinger, and Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Dr. Barbara McGraw Edmondson, will greet students at Frederick County Catholic schools during a special liturgy at St. John Regional School on Monday, February 1st at 10 a.m.

Catholic Schools Week, which began in 1974, is a national week-long observance that begins on Sunday, January 31st. The theme “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service,” highlights the hallmarks of Catholic education.

Representatives of Mother Seton School, St. John’s Catholic Prep, St. Thomas More Academy and Visitation Academy will join students, faculty and staff from St. John’s Regional School for the Mass, celebrated by Archbishop Lori and area clergy.

Facts about Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore:
• Elementary school students score in the top 40% or higher in the Nation.
• Middle school students score in the top 1/3 in the nation in Reading and Math.
• Catholic school students score an average of 120 points higher on the SAT than the national average.
• 99% of Catholic school students graduate from high school.
• 98% of Catholic school students go on to attend college.
• The Class of 2015 was awarded over $200 million in college scholarships.

There are 48 Catholic elementary/middle schools and 20 high schools serving 26,160 students in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, which consists of Baltimore city and the following counties: Allegany, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Frederick, Harford, Howard, and Washington.
