Checklist for Planning your Catholic Wedding
checkAnnounce Engagement
checkMeet with Priest or Deacon
checkReserve a Date on the parish calendar (Note: In the case where one or both were previously married, the decree(s) of annulment must be received before a wedding date for your new marriage can be set.
checkWorship together
checkRegister for Marriage Preparation
checkContact church of your baptism to secure baptism certificate dated within six months of the proposed marriage
checkMake guest list
checkMake arrangements for reception, honeymoorn, clothing and travel
checkInvite any attendants and liturgical ministers
checkComplete Marriage Preparation
checkMeet with your priest/deacon again (number of meetings will vary)
checkSelect Scripture readings and other prayers for your wedding
checkInvestigate Natural Family Planning Methods
checkMake arrangements with church musician(s)
checkSecure marriage license from city or county where the marriage is to take place. There is a waiting period of three working days between application and receipt of license. Give to clergyman before the wedding.
checkSchedule rehearsal with the church
checkMake time for personal prayer and reflection throughout this preparation time. The Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist are valuable sources of grace and healing.
