Tasks by Committee and Board Goals

Communications Committee (Dcn. Mauser)

  • Provide a standard calendar of events for the deacon community.
  • Advertise small group opportunities for deacons (support groups, Emmaus groups, groups of mutual interest).
  • Develop a plan and parameters for the Deacon Newsletter.
  • Alert Pastors to encourage deacons to attend workshops and events (convocations, days of enrichment, retreats, etc.). **this goal is shared with the office of clergy personnel.
  • Establish standards for a newsletter

Placement Committee (Dcn. Zeiler)

  • Continue and streamline the placement committee interview process - identify existing and emerging trends.
  • Review Deacon assignments, especially in under served areas.
  • Reconcile the five year interview questions with the norms in the deacon handbook.

On-Going Formation

  • Provide education programs on Archdiocesan policy for the deacon community.
  • Provide on-going workshops on pertinent topics(e.g. stress management).
  • Advertise educational opportunities for deacons in the Baltimore/D.C. area.
  • Provide workshops on the following topics:
    • Liturgical norms and practices for communion services
    • Review of marriage preparation processes and programs
    • The annulment process
    • Individual Deacon responsibilities to the Archdiocese and the Order of Deacons

Policy Committee

  • Keep the Deacon Handbook current and consult with the other dioceses regarding norms, procedures, and policies.

Executive Committee (Dcn. Benjamin)

  • Coordinate and direct the work of the Board.
  • Assure the new norms are effective, timely, and implemented.

The Whole Board

  • Welcome and integrate newly ordained and external deacons into the deacon community.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of town meetings and coordinate the town meetings with the annual vicars' meetings with deacons. ** In conjunction witht eh Office of Clergy Personnel.
  • Review the placement committee's interview questions.
