Catholic Charities

The work of Catholic Charities in the United States was begun here by Archbishop John Carroll when he declared in 1792 that a portion of all parish revenues be set aside “for the relief of the poor.”

Catholic Charities has 80 programs throughout the archdiocese that touch the lives of 160,000 people and their families—children, seniors, people suffering from poverty, and those living with developmental disabilities. We cherish the Divine within everyone who comes to us for assistance. Our work is compassionately and efficiently done by 2,000 employees supported by 15,000 volunteers and 15,000 donors.

Catholic Charities is grounded in the gospel of Jesus rooted in the mission of the Catholic Church. Our mission is threefold: to provide healing and care to those in need; to educate people to social awareness and motivate them to act on behalf of the disadvantaged; and to advocate for a public policy that will ensure a just society.
